Can anyone help?

Our District Chairman is searching for a particular publication.  Is there anyone who has a copy of a booklet produced by Mrs Edna Ray who was district Chairman in 1977/78. It was a potted history of the first 50 years of District 17 and edited by Miriam Stone who was PDC in 1985/86.

New Year and New Member …

This photo shows District Chairman Jill inducting our newest member, Lesley Croslegh., at our meeting on the 3rd January 2013.

Jill then gave us such an interesting talk on the origins of Inner Wheel and the motivational people behind it – Mrs Golding, Mrs Nixon and Gladys Young being paramount. Our knowledge of relevant dates was not wonderful, but we did know that District 17 was formed in 1989.

We greatly enjoyed Jill’s visit and we learnt a lot from her and she said that she had learnt a lot from us, particularly the organisation of raffle prizes! We were not on top form with that one! We greatly enjoyed Jill’s visit and look forward to meeting her again.

A New Year Message from our Association President …

Dear Inner Wheel Friends

A very Happy New Year to you all and I hope that 2013 will be fruitful for you.

Many of us say that this is the quiet part of the Inner Wheel year and I suppose that is true from the point of view of special events. However most of us are busy making preparations for those events now. The crafts come out and we hunt around for goodies for the disadvantaged peoples locally and in foreign parts.

Might I make a request that you whilst you are doing preparations that you consider making a “Potty Present” for the Association stall at Conference, which will take the form of a Tombola, with every ticket winning a prize. The prizes will be in small glass or plastic jars and prettied up for the occasion with paint, stickers, ribbons etc., so the stall will be exciting to see. Each £2 ticket will buy one of the jars and its contents. In the jar will be a gift for a young person (from newborn to 18 years.) which could be a toy, bling, crayons, make-up, mitts, puzzle, scarf etc etc. It makes it more fun to wrap the present up so you have to open the jar to find out what you have won. Hopefully you will have something which can be given to a niece/nephew, grandchild, greatgrandchild or a neighbour or friend’s child. All the proceeds will go to the Brainwave charity and it would be simpler if you could bring the jar with you or, if not coming to Plymouth, make arrangements for someone to bring it for you. Please take your offerings to the stall as early as possible on the Monday.

I noticed an advert from the charity Age UK which is asking for coats, which you no longer need, to be donated to them, so that they can ensure their clients are kept warm in the winter months. This is a simple but effective use of unwanted clothes of this type and I would thoroughly recommend that you rummage around to see what you can find to donate.

A visit to the Stroke Association’s Life after Stroke centre in Bromsgrove has been organised for Inner Wheel members on February 28th 2013. There will be a demonstration of what can be done for people who require the Life after Stroke measures, which Inner Wheel has pledged to support this year, by trying to ensure that such measures are made available in our local communities. I thought that some of you, who live within striking distance of Bromsgrove, may like to join me there. If you would like to go, please let me know as invitations will be sent out and there will be a limit on attendees.

New Year Message from our District Chairman …

January 2013

Dear Fellow Member

I would like to wish you and your Club a Very Happy and Successful New Year.

We are at the beginning of the next six months with still lots more to achieve and I am sure you have many events planned not only in your Club, but at Interclub and Overseas Zone Rallies, and of course dare I say it, District Events.

The Executive Team and I are looking forward to welcoming you all to the District Rally on Friday, 22nd February 2013 at Ottery St Mary church followed by lunch at West Hill Village Hall.

Following this we have a really exciting Spring District Meeting which we have now renamed ‘History on Parade’ for an afternoon meeting with tea, on Friday 22nd March 2013. Please can you all come dressed in the decade your Club was formed, even if it is just wearing a hat and gloves. It is shaping up to be a really different afternoon meeting.
